The soothing sounds of the rushing river left a peaceful state of mind to any cat that happened to walk near it. The splotches of sun that escaped through the treetops left the river glowing in places so blindly beautiful. The chirp of nearby birds only perfected it.

A silvery-brown tom walked nearby it, his pelt glossy from the amount of prey that Starclan had blessed Riverclan with year to year. He sighed blissfully, clearly and obviously enjoying himself. He chose a smooth rock to lay on that was embedded into the ground. He closed his blue eyes and listened to the river.

Freezefang was hunting. Two fish lay dead near her feet. She wanted to catch one more before returning to the camp. She was in a foul mood as usual. The deputy had woken her up early and sent her to lead the dawn patrol. Freezefang didn't want to, but she had to obey her deputy.


Freezefang was doing some solitary hunting now. She really wanted to be a lone. It didn't help much when another riverclan cat ventured into her range of vision.

Freezefang turned around and scowled. "Why are you here?" She snapped. After seeing that the cat was just relaxing, she sighed and said, "Just don't get in my way."

Freezefang turned back towards the river, saw a quick flash in the water. Swiftly, she clawed the water and hooked up a fish, causing ripples to leave in her wake.

The tom quickly sat up and turned towards the she-cat. She obviously didn't realize that he was her deputy because the way she talked to him was quite rude. He glanced at her with the slightest bit of surprise on his face.

"Are you aware you are in the presence of your deputy and future leader? Obviously not. Please watch your tone with me."

He flicked his tail back and forth as he watched the femme hunt for fish, lashing out her paw and sending droplets of water into the air. He gracefully jumped off the rock with no effort and stood next to the pure white she-cat. Sitting down and delicately placing his tail around his left haunch and on top of his front feet, he examined her skill closely. She seemed to be a rather good hunter. He wondered how well she could fight.

"Nice catches. Keep up the good work."

He smiled at her, but there was almost no feeling behind it.

"Sorry," Freezefang apologized. She hadn't realized it was the riverclan deputy. Next time she would think about who she was talking to. Freezefang set her fish next to the other three. Then she dived in the river, starting to swim. She ignored the deputy, hoping he would leave her alone. Freezefang loved the feel of the cold water against her fur. It was very refreshing. Freezefang loved the water, especially because it could keep her cool during New Leaf and Green Leaf.

The pale silvery-brown tom watched her with intent curiosity. He could tell that she wanted him away from her. He could feel the annoyance emitting from her, which made it fun to mess with her. Sure he was deputy and being deputy was serious business, but it couldn't hurt to mess around every now and then. He flicked her side with his tail as a gesture for her to watch him.

Bright blue eyes intent on the water, he knelt down and held his paw in the air and as soon as a plump-looking fish swam by, he lashed his paw into the water and at a breakneck pace a fish came out and was sitting in between the two. He glanced at her and smiled.

Freezefang sat on the bank as she watched the deputy catch a fish. She was unimpressed. Freezefang wasn't an easy cat to please. Freezefang sighed and watched as he set the prey down. "So why are you here anyway?" She asked him. Freezefang was curious.

the tom glanced at her and smiled.

"well i'm here because i usually always come here to relax and take breaks from my daily duty as deputy. its not as easy as some cats say..."

he sighed then walked back over to the rock he was lying on previously and laid back down on it again, tucking his paws underneath his chest.

Freezefang sighed and picked up her prey into her jaws. She turned to head back to camp, and heard a growl near them. Freezefang swung around. It was a dog. The dog was small though, not bigger then the two cats themselves. The dog started barking at Ghostspirit.

Freezefang frowned as it ran towards Ghostspirit.

ghostspirit spun around quickly to face the growling sound. a dog about the size of the two of them put together raced towards him in a frenzy. the dog rammed into him, barreling him over. he got the breath knocked out of him and he lay on the forest floor, awaiting his death. he tried desperately to gather breath back into his lungs so that he could get back up and fight the animal. hopefully, freezefang would decide to help her. but what if she got hurt in the process? he frowned slightly and attempted to get up, only to be knocked down again.

Freezefang hurled herself at the dog. She clawed at its snout. The dog yelped and leapt back. Freezefang hissed and attempted to scratch its leg. Then the dog lunged foward and shoved her hard a few rabbit lengths away. The dog growled and stalked towards Freezefang.

ghostspirit witnessed the dog tossing freezefang to the side like she was just a mouse. the silvery brown tom hopped up and hissed viciously at the dog. he lashed out at its face and scratched the side of its snout. he could see scarlet liquid oozing out of the three scrapes. the dog yipped and the tom lunged at his leg and bit the beast's leg. it yipped again and then ran away. ghostspirit smiled in satisfaction. then he trotted over to freezefang. he pawed her gently and craned his neck to get a good look at her and make sure she was okay.

"freezefang...?"

"Mousedung," Freezefang muttered. She had a bad pain in her shoulder. She winced as she got up on her feet. "Shoulder hurts, but I'm fine," she said. Freezefang nodded to Ghostwhisper. "Uh, thanks..." Freezefang sighed and looked out across the river. She saw an orange furred cat sitting there, looking right at her. A sense of familiarity tingled through Freezefang's bones. Did she know that cat? Freezefang wasn't sure.

X-FLAMECLAW-X

Flameclaw looked across the river to the Riverclan territory. She had seen the fight between the dog and the two other cats. Flameclaw looked at the white cat, feeling like she knew her. Flameclaw turned away when the cat met her gaze. She walked off away from the border, out of the cat's sight.

ghostspirit glanced at the she-cat, wondering what she was looking at. she was glancing across the river curiously. he followed the trail of her eyes and saw a bright orange cat sitting across on the other side of the river. he turned his head to the side, then the other cat walked away, retreating into the bushes.

"do you know that cat...?"

Freezefang was silent for a few moments. Then she replied, "I don't know. I'm asking myself the same thing." She stared in the direction where the cat had disappeared. "I know her...and I don't know her..." Freezefang frowned when she realized she was talking mostly to herself. "Great, I must sound crazy now," she muttered. Freezefang batted the water, clawing out another fish and killing it. She set it aside and sighed. "Something's wrong with me," she whispered.

"Nothing is wrong with you. You are pretty normal to me. Besides, that cat was pretty much a brown version of you. Are you siblings or something...?" He tried not to hurt her feelings. Sighing deeply, he lied down on the ground next to Freezefang and wondered if he could ever get along with her. She was a very complicated cat to talk to and get along with. She was so easy to enrage, as well. Starclan, please help me get through to her.
