The day was late, very late in fact it was almost moonhigh. For many years Windclan had been a pretty stable peaceful place, until the passing of the deputy. The effects of his death had actted like a rippling wave over Darkstar`s emotions. For a long time the old deputy Cascadingfur had been his friend. In fact they had grown up together since they were kits, and had been inseperable. His extreamly long black furyou , for which he was named lay still, and had taken on a dull sheen instead of its shiny gloss. Now his broken lifeless body lay before him sprawled rather uncerimoniously on the ground in front of the Tall tree. As much has he wanted to crumble and weep like a lost kitten in front of his dear friend, he managed to maintain a composed form if only just.
Darkstar knew that Starclan would welcome him openly, and that no matter the circumstances that he was expected to replace him with a new deputy that night. Even the thought of lifting his head to call upon those cats that had yet to assemble. Tears that longed to fall, were blocked by his desire to hold the clan together. His friend was to be remembered, and not sorrowed over. He was a great noble warrior, and he would see a fit cat take his place. With a heavy heart his voice rang out for all to hear. " Let all cats old enough to catch there prey, gather for a clan meeting. Our beloved deputy has been killed, and I must appoint a new one." He surveyed the area and waited for them to gather around.

Sleetwhisper shared Darkstar's grief. He had known Cascadingfur well, and it was sad to see him go like this. The WindClan medicine cat knew every cat had to die sometime, but right now, and in this way, it wasn't right. Now a new deputy would be appointed, although the old one would be missed undoubtedly. Sleetwhisper wondered who the new deputy would be. There were many strong, loyal warriors in WindClan. Birchclaw and Crimsonminded were the two cats who stood out in his mind. Both were extremely loyal, but Crimsonminded was less ambitious and battle-hungry than Birchclaw. The medicine cat was wise enough to know that if Birchclaw became deputy, it could only lead to battles and much bloodshed. StarClan, please don't let it be Birchclaw! he thought. Crimsonminded was smart and knew how to settle problems without fighting, he was the correct choice of deputy. The only question for Sleetwhisper was whether Darkstar, in his state of grief and hysteria, would be able to make the right choice. "Rest in piece, Cascadefur," the wise cat whispered, staring up into the sky dotted with the first stars of the night.

i'm an empty case ... an empty shell. xx. a small calico's body moved from the other end of the clearing. her eyes were a lime green and she looked as though she were about to cry. she stared at the tom above her, knowing only him and sleetwhisper in this clan. she stared up at darkstar as she wandered through the assembling cats.
she accidently collided with the side of sleetwhisper and the kit jumped and shook so violently she stared up at the cat with her big eyes. she would pretend not to be afraid, but it was hard. with a small whimper she stared up at the cat with her bright green eyes. i'm...i'm sorry. she whimpered softly as she stared up at him with her big eyes. t o x i c . im screaming for you.xx. a calico tabby brute emerged from the warriors den. he had to look carefully as he made his way across the clearing, watching for any kits or cats of his clan. he was massive, his body rather large and his muscles rippled with every step he took. he stared directly each of the cat's; attempting to determine who each of the cat's were. he smirked as he looked toward the small kit which was sitting near sleetwhisper. he smiled politely toward the medicine cat and the new kit; whom he had not seen before. he smiled again before sitting back on his haunches. he watched the other kits make their way out with their mothers and a sigh of longing came onto him. how long had it been since he wanted kits of his own?[/blockquote][/blockquote]

With a saddened groan, Redpaw took his place in the back; near the other apprentices. He barely knew the deputy, but for some reason it tugged and ripped through his heart, knowing that because of his death his clan may or may not ever be the same. He could tell by the loss of sheen in Darkstar's coat that he was absolutely devastated. It was obvious that they had a very weak leader and a very mournful clan. Even at this time; he wondered. Who would be chosen? Redpaw knew who it would be, and didn't particularly enjoy the cat. Crimsonminded, that black and white cat. He rolled his eyes, in deep thought. He couldn't disagree that the cat was responsible and such, but isn't there somebody else?

Slowly changing, ever fading. You see my happy, inside I'm raving
X|XCrimsonMinded--|
There I sat, nice and comfortable, staring up at the night sky, lost in thought as I gazed at the moon. It's light reflecting from my eyes, having them glow a soft emerald green.
A call out from Darkstar, my leader, brought me back to the present. He was calling together everyone for a meeting. I could sense his loss and approached with a lowered head and tail, I only lifted it as I came to a stop, gazing up to my leader, sitting and waiting, patiently... so patiently...

xx. BIRCH claw..
xx. Birchclaw padded slowly, almost lazily to the meeting place in the center of the camp. His fur close to bristling with unspoken expectancy. I will be deputy; even leader someday! He thought, nearly jumping out of his pelt with excitement. I will be such a good leader one day. I will make the clans bow to my will. I will rule everything and Windclan will be all powerful. His orbs darkened; and a sick happiness arose as he pictured himself towering above all, higher than he already did. Standing alone in the gathering place. With all cats loving him solely. Worshiping him.
xx. Stepping lithely into the clearing, an air of predetermined authority emitting from him. He could tell some of the other cats could feel his anticipation, his righteousness and above all his confidence that he would be deputy. His leaders call was ringed with such sorrow and grief. Birchclaw did not quite understand why he didn't feel much sorrow for the lost deputy. But then again he didn't really feel much except loathing, hunger and the need to have power. But he knew if he was appointed he would be a good leader and change his clans view on the world.
xx. A few cats observed him, some he could tell were for his rule and some were not. But he would make them feel love for him. He needed their love and support to get where he wanted. To be more powerful than Starclan itself. He thought: I will rule... and took his place with the other warriors near the rock

Redpaw snorted a bit and giggled as he saw the ever so confident Birchclaw. What a jerk. Does he really think that our leader would choose HIM for the deputy? His attitude is more cocky than a roosters. I don't think that Darkstar in his RIGHT MIND would think about choosing him. What a little bast- He was interrupted by the sight of Sleetwhisper. With a grin, Redpaw slinked his way towards him. Once he finally was close enough, he sat down next to the elder warrior.
Hey.. The apprentice licked his muzzle, and flicked his tail a few times. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't keep his eyes off of his weakened leader though. Redpaw at the moment felt ashamed to be ruled by such a cat.

There was much for him to announce tonight. Every nerve in his body pressed him to continue on and stay strong. He could understand that he probably looked weakened, but why should he try to overly hide how much the loss of his friend bothered him. Cascadingfur had been like a brother to him, now he had to replace him. As if such a cat was, or could be so simply replaced by another. Whomever he chose would have a hard time in his eyes living up to his friends standards that much was certain. His choices as it stood were miserably limited, not that he didn`t trust those preasent for the job. It just worried him that so few were fit enough to even be considered. He would really have to raise the bar on there training.
Darkstar looked around, and his eyes fell on Redpaw, and Mountainpaw. Both needed there mentors to be replaced, and he might as well add it to his list of things to do while he was on the tree. Redpaw seems like a good young tom, but he still needs some measures of guidence. For him perhaps Sundrip, or Crimsonminded. As for Mountainpaw, he has learned much, but like Redpaw still needs a few finishing touches on his training. For him Whisperingtear. Pleased with himself for at least being able to carry out regular decisions under the conditions, he stood a little higher. His next decision would change Windclan, whether they all knew it or not.
Acute green orbs watched the tall Birchclaw take in his surroundings with keen interest. Could this tom be the new deputy. He would have definatly considered one of the older cats Sundrip, if he had not earlier witnessed him not eatting properly eventhough the clans prey source was plentiful. He needed a strong deputy who would be able to do such things, but only when called for. They would need to be able to lead should he fall ill, or should he be in battle elsewhere in the territory. A dependable tom to be sure, Birchclaw was, but was he the right one? Then he saw another fit warrior, perhaps one not as ready to jump into the spot as Birchclaw seemed to be. Crimsonminded had been loyal, and he was to recieve an apprentice as well. Had Birchclaw ever had one? Still Crimsonminded also had often displayed the right skills needed. Either way Darkstar decided that he would have to se to training the chosen cat for leadership should it ever be needed. Of course he didn`t plan on dying nine times anytime soon.
Clearing his throat he motioned for the clan to be silent while he spoke. His eyes took on a new serious glint, his friend was gone, and he would do him justice by living stronger then before as was his duty. " I have chosen a new deputy, and I say these words before the body of the old, so that his spirit may hear and approve my choice. Crimsonminded shall be the new deputy. I would also like to assign Redpaw and Mountainpaw new mentors as well. Crimsonminded you are ready for an apprentice. You will be Redpaw`s mentor. Whisperingtear you are also ready for an apprentice. you shall be Mountainpaw`s mentor. Crimsonminded you have very big paw steps to fill, I hope you realize the task given to you." Without another word he dropped to the ground and started to clean the pelt of Cascadingfur in respect. Even then he wondered how the repercusions of what he had said would effect the clan.

xx. Sitting straighter Birchclaw twitched. His ears pricked, his tail flicked angrily. But he controlled himself. His composure was not lost; yet. All these signs of anger were small. Unnoticeable. Yet the fire building behind his dark eyes was real. The hatred, the loathing and above all the lust for revenge. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEPUTY!! His thoughts were roaring in his ears. But on the outside his lean and very large body sat rigid, unmoving while his emotions battered against feline skull.
xx. I am not chosen? He puzzled over this in a state of quiet hysteria. I am not chosen? It kept repeating. I am not chosen? Why wouldn't it stop? I am not chosen? His ears pushed back. I am not chosen? What is happening? I am not chosen? He released a feral hiss as his clan mates began to part from the gathering; a few turned and stared. I am not chosen? He jumped up, towering menacingly over the clan. I am not chosen? He howled. I am not chosen!? He jumped onto the high rock. I was not chosen. He said quietly though his insides were exploding in rushes of killer whales upon unsuspecting seals.
xx. His body was quaking as he leapt down and stood by Crimsonminded. He licked the new deputies shoulder carefully in congratulations and walked back to the den. I will win... but it will be saved for another day; soon. He could feel his rage building inside. He knew it would break him and he would kill. He knew. But not today. Today he would rest for the havoc he would wreak tomorrow. I am not chosen...

Redpaw perked up as he heard his name. Crimsonminded you are ready for an apprentice. You will be Redpaw`s mentor. .
Sweet! The deputy is my mentor! He grinned at his newly appointed teacher, and then glanced at Birchclaw. At first look he saw pure despise, and he could see the violent vibe coming from his fellow clan-mate. Redpaw then shifted nervously and looked back at his leader, then back at Birchclaw. This time around he saw disappointment and sorrow, mixed with ambition and new hope. For some reason, a shudder rippled through him; he was proud of the cat. With a weak smile the over-sized apprentice walked forward a few insecure steps. Maybe I could be deputy one day.

ooc|| If you're talking about MY Mountainpaw, she's a girl. xD If I'm wrong about this post, please tell me xD ]]
Hallalujah. She thought, sarcastically . Then she heard the words, " Whisperingtear you are also ready for an apprentice. you shall be Mountainpaw`s mentor." The she-cat's ears flattened against her skull. Was that her, or another cat? She hoped it wasn't her, because she didn't feel like being nagged. She didn't know about anyone else, but that was her case, and she didn't care if anyone had a problem about it or not. No one could change it, and that was it. Unless they/she devoted time into attempting to change it, then no. Certainly not.

Sleetwhisper watched Birchclaw go, thankful he wasn't picked to be deputy. If he became deputy, it could only lead to battles and bloodshed. He could see that the tom was unhappy with Darkstar's decision, but he would have to live with it. "Congratulations, Crimsonminded!" he chanted, happy for the new deputy and even happier because Darkstar had made the right choice. Two more cats training to become warriors, WindClan was growing well. Soon they would become warriors, and maybe a few more kits would become apprentices. It always went like that, it was a beautiful thing, really.

Brightstream had had watched and listen to the meeting in silenced. She could tell by his voice that Darkstar was grieving at the loss of the Deputy. She understood his pain, for had loss many in her life, and the death of the Windclan Deputy was a blow to everyone. Even though she was never close to Cascadingfur like others were, she did felt sadness. But deep down, she knew that things will continue on.
She listened as the Windclan Leader chose Crimsonminded as Deputy. At the name the creamy-yellow she-cat smiled. Brightstream had a feeling that it was going to be either Birchclaw or Crimsonminded. She was glad that Darkstar chose the other. She had never felt comfortable with Birchclaw, even to the ponit where she doesn't really trust him.
She then heard a hiss close to her. She quickly glanced over to see Birchclaw in sheer anger. She stared in shock as she watched the tom go over to the newly appointed Deputy, gave him a lick on the shoulder, and then went to the warriors den.
'I sure hope he's not going to do something stupid' Brightstream thought as she made her way over to congratulate Crimsonminded.

Lilypaw had been sorting herbs for Sleetwhisper, going over their names and uses in her head as she came to each type, when she heard the call of Darkstar " Let all cats old enough to catch there prey, gather for a clan meeting. Our beloved deputy has been killed, and I must appoint a new one." Cascadingfur died? This seemed to shock the young she-cat for a moment. She hadn't known him well, but from what she did know he had always seemed so strong and brave, and he died? She quietly padded out of Sleetwhispers den, coming to sit by her mentor. She could feel his grief, he had known Cascasding fur well. Ginger ears flicked back slightly as she heard him whisper, and bowing her head, she made a silent prayer to Starclan herself. Starclan, take good care of him Darkstar began speaking again as more cats gathered, and she lifted her head, listening intently on who the new deputy would be Crimsonminded. The little ginger she-cat smiled and she mewed out a friendly congratulations. Her smile soon faded though as she saw Birchclaw coming down from tall tree. He didnt seem to happy.. not at all.
