g h o s tspiritstar--x As the sun met the horizon line, creating a breathtaking purple, pink, and orange-ish sunset, a dusky gray and white tom proceeded out of his den, making his way to the highest branch. The air outside of his den was a little humid, but it was bearable. He forced all of his strength back to his back legs, then sprang up to the first branch and made his way up to the top one. He sat formally, wrapping his tail around his front paws.
"All cats old enough to catch their own prey, join here beneath the tree for a clan meeting."
As he sent out the call, he could hear the echoing of his voice bouncing off the barriers that protected the clan camp. Ghoststar's blue orbs scanned the clearing as cats began to proceed from their dens and stop all activity. He waited patiently for all of the to gather below.

[D.]uskDuskpelt paced into the clearing calmly, his bright blue eyes scanning the area. His muscular build only slightly shown through his long fur. He sat, relaxing his arms. He licked his paw. Today would be the day the deputy would be chosen, and RiverClan would finally be a true clan. He was curious. Who would Ghoststar choose? He felt the tingle of excitement in his paw tips, and a slight wonder crossed his mind. What if it was him? Duskpelt didn't want to be cocky though. There was a lot of cats who deserved his spot too. He would just have to wait and see.

ICEHEART ! an uncharacteristic sigh floated through the maw of the white she-cat, her large blue optics flicking about camp as she stretched. those ceremony words floated through her mind, and it was only those words that had awoken her from her slumber. truthfully, she had merely been dozing - those moments before truly awakening, pondering who would be the unlucky creature to awaken her - and those words had dragged her out of her soft, warm nest, and into the clearing. of course, the beams of light had shattered across the horizon, tainting the riverclan lands a pure orange color. beautiful and breathtaking; iceheart had no time to sit and watch the sun reflect her own groggy movements in the morning.
instead, the thin she-cat glanced about the clearing. only a couple of cats were out there (thank starclan, if i had been up much later it would make me look bad in front of the entire clan!) and she wandered towards the nearest cat - which happened to be duskpelt. a small grin graced her countenance and she seated herself near him, twitching her whiskers. licking her paw and running it over her soft white fur, she turned to him, willing herself to start a conversation. she had seen duskpelt several times before, and she knew him as sort of a rival - he acted like a possible choice for deputy.
a grin spread across her face and she let out a small purr - uncharacteristic but kind. iceheart was known to be colder to those who tried talking to her as a lesser figure, but to those who noted her strengths often got on her good side. "hello, duskpelt. hoping ghoststar will pick you?" of course, iceheart was one of the cats who thought she deserved that position, but she didn't want to make an enemy of this cat. who knew, maybe they would end up as friends. and if duskpelt was chosen for deputy, she would want to keep on his good side.

[D.]uskpeltWhats this? A lyer behind a mask of fools gold? Or this? A friend in rags quite old. Or maybe, they are rags of gold. Duskpelt turned his head toward the she-cat. She had a slightly deceaving aura, but most cats were. "Hello." He meowed, . "I don't think it really matters who gets the deputy position, as long as that cat has a heart pure enough to lead us with starclan oneday" The cat was an ideal preacher. He smiled at Iceheart. He was honest and clear headed. He wouldn't let anything get through to him, even this cat's lying purr. Or maybe she wasn't lying. Maybe, just maybe, she was being a honest cat who really thought they could be friends. Oh, he met plenty of those cats in his life.He shook off his uneasy thoughts and smiled away the tension. "And you? Are you hoping Ghoststar will pick you as his deputy?"

ICEHEART ! "i think it matters who gets the position, honestly." iceheart mewed, her eyes taking a faraway look for a moment. "i mean, who wants a cat who will lead riverclan to ruin? who wants a deputy that will kill ghoststar in his sleep?" her soft blue orbs flicked back to duskpelt, and a sarcastic purr rumbled through her throat. a sarcastic smirk graced her face, and it was obvious through her body language that she was simply being playful. "you, perhaps?" to iceheart , that thought was not too far off the voice of reason. sure, duskpelt could have a friendly disposition, but she still had a lingering suspicion. cats were almost always completely different when leading than when they were just a warrior. her father was a prime example of this - although he had never achieved leadership status or even deputy status, he had been power hungry... power-crazy, actually.
he had ended up killing himself.
with a shiver at the thought, she returned to reality. she could sense a slight tension in duskpelt, a tension that everyone seemed to meet her with. true, she had her moments when she was a little over the top, and she was more than often enough cruel and hard-hearted. but she was hard-working, and she knew if she was picked for deputy ( possibly, maybe, hopefully ) that she wouldn't be like the cat she had mentioned earlier. at duskpelt's next question, she twitched her whiskers and smirked.
"i think that whoever ghoststar picks will be the right choice. he's smart. he won't pick a serial killer."

Bright, glowing yellow eyes pierce out into the camp from within the warrior's den. The figure of a silver-and-black tabby cat then stepped out of the den. Spiritgaze stared around at his surroundings, watching his Clanmates move in the direction of the highest branch where the leader, Ghoststar, called for a meeting. He, like most of the cats here, already knew what it was for. The announcement of the next Deputy.
It's hard to believe that the time has come already. He solemnly as he headed up to the Highest Branch. When he reached it there were a few cats already there. His gaze swept the area and laid his eyes on two cats, Duskpelt and Iceheart, two great warriors and both worthy of being Deputy. He picked his way over to them and sat nearby, nodding a greeting to both of them. The two cats, though, weren't the only ones great for the position. Spiritgaze, himself was also high on the list to become Deputy. It made sense, for he has experience, was a deep thinker and good to his Clanmates. Yet at the same time, he wouldn't mind if the Leader chose someone else. Whatever his decision will be, it will be the right one. He thought glancing at Dushpelt and Iceheart, as well as the other good warriors.

[D.]uskpeltIt sometimes makes me wonder. Are the world leaders making the right choices? It sometimes makes me wonder. Would I do any better? Duskpelt blinked. "I've only once killed a cat. And it was an accident." He meowed, frowning. "A river related accident." A lot of deaths in his life were river related. His tail flicked back in forth in silence. "Yes, I'm sure your right." Ghoststar would pick a smart cat. A cat who would not be his downfall.

ICEHEART ! iceheart frowned, mirroring duskpelt's own look on her countenance. a little twitch of her whiskers was the only thing that showed off her irritation. iceheart knew that many cats couldn't really catch her quips and jokes - but every time this happened, her annoyance only got higher instead of cooling down. to be truthful, iceheart thought that duskpelt telling her about this death of this cat was kinda... too much information. however, instead of telling him this, she tilted her head to the side, her smirk fading. "uh... i'm sorry?" she wondered how a river-related accident could leave duskpelt as the killer... and if it truly was an accident.
iceheart shrugged - none of her business. instead, she ended the conversation, casting her gaze towards ghoststar. the ceremonies were sure to happen any moment, weren't they?

x. the petite twilight she-cat sat on her haunches, watching the rest with ease. her black orbs flickering once or twice, taking in a few hints. and then they turned to ghoststar, seeming to burn into him with a gentle hope. she wanted badly this position, enough to maybe even throw a fit, and later sob her heart out to auburnsky if she lost it. it wasnt like she was doing this for greed, but that haunting notion of her past always made her do things she would later regret if bad, but this one was good. very good. her new family was riverclan, and all she wanted to do was to help save it. and for her childrens lives. with a sickening jolt she remembered giving half of her babes to their fathers clan, and keeping the other half with her. she could still remember burying her fifth kit, kinkkit. he hadn't made it past the night. the new scar on her side throbbed as she shifted her positions slowly. she quickly licked her white chest, hoping no one would ask where she had gotten it again. she hated feeling... touched. when someone cared, it got to her heart. it made her want to scream out to the world everything, so she kept quiet, and a little on the dark side of the earth. no one wants to talk or care for someone who seems emotionless. her heart began to flutter uselessly as she looked up to ghoststar gently. "please.. starclan hear me out... let me be deputy, and then leader, so i may use my lives to save those of my home... please" she gasped the words quietly, and slowly looked to the ground. she remembered her teachings from her mother. dont talk unless spoken too. and starclan had not spoken to her. ever.

g h o s t star Ghoststar continued to watch the cats mingle in the clearing, when he noticed most of them were glancing up at him, hoping for the announcement, he quickly flicked his tail as a gesture and a request for the noise to die down. The cats of Riverclan may be loquacious and quite social, but they listened to their leader well. He stood, and spoke the words they had been waiting for.
"I know you all have been waiting for this moment for a while now. But, the wait is over. It is time Riverclan gets a new deputy. I have chosen someone I think is very worthy of this position and will do anything to uphold it..."
He subtly glanced at the cat he had his mind set on and a quick smirk crossed his visage and then was gone. He had much faith in the cat he chose and knew for a fact that this cat would do anything possible to retain the position.
"Your new deputy is...
Ghoststar enjoyed watching all their excited faces and their hopeful glances. He smiled as he said his choice and braced himself for the calls of the new deputy's name.
"...Iceheart."

ICEHEART ! a small smirk spread across iceheart's own countenance as she glanced up at ghoststar, twitching her whiskers at him in a silent, subtle thanks. truthfully, she had been quite anxious, but she would never let anyone seek anything behind her rough exterior. nobody was quite worthy enough to peel back the roughness of her personality to find the squishy kitten beneath the hungry lion. instead of grinning and professing her 'thanks you's and squealing, she took a small breath and stepped to her paws, steadying herself with a small twitch of her pure tail. her blue optics stared up at ghoststar, and with a small breath, she spoke.
"thank you, ghoststar. i'll work my hardest for riverclan." after a moment, she decided to add something more heartwarming. perhaps that would earn the support of a few more of her clanmates. "i promise." and she would work her paws off for riverclan. riverclan would be whole once more - she would die to make sure of that.

Ghoststar nodded at the pretty she-cat and said, "Don't thank me. Thank yourself for being such a great and noble warrior." He smiled at her and pounced off of the highest branch and made his way to his den. He was very happy with his choice. He just hoped that she wouldn't do anything bad to the clan or harm himself or the clan in any way. He didn't think she would, because she seemed to be a very nice and decent cat. Or, at least he thought so. He smiled, thinking about her becoming leader one day. Icestar. She would be a lovely leader for this clan.
