Prologue
It's the year 2056. 16 years ago, a group of scientists thought that they had discovered a machine that could cure cancer. Unfortunately, when they tested it, the machine exploded. It sent radioactive waves all over the world. Some years passed and people started to mutate, mostly children. The mutants became a danger to society. So in 2050, a group of people formed an orignization called Cancer. They had "Cancer Police," who went around collecting the mutants. If they were too dangerous, the mutants would be put to death, the weaker ones were tested on. Of course there were parents with mutated children, so the parents sent their children to secret orphanages that were hidden in forests. The people who owned the orphanages believed that the children weren't freaks, they were just blessed by God. That's why most parents liked the idea of their mutated child going to one of them. They don't just feed, clothe, bathe, and care for the children, they also train them to fight. This was in case if the orphanages were ever found, the children would know how to defend themselves. Sometimes their mutations came in handy, and they were taught how to use their new skill to fight. My name is Jenna, I'm 15 years old. I've been at the orphanage since I was 9. This is the story of my friends and I, Nikki who is 15 like me, Cap, 14, Alex, nine, and Jay who is seven. One last thing, because you're reading this, you're in danger now.

.::Chapter One::. It was a typical morning at the orphanage. I had gotten up a little earlier because I couldn't sleep. I was already changed into my clothes. I stood in the dining room, nibbling on some toast. Yeah, I didn't feel like sitting. It had been about a half an hour. More kids were starting to come in for breakfast. I smiled as my best friends came in. We sat at our table. I sat next to Nikki, her medium length reddish brown hair was tied back into a ponytail. Across from us sat Alex, Jay, and Cap. Cap's dark brown hair was messy as usual. I always nagged him about trying to brush it down a little, but he never did. Alex looked at me with big brown eyes (Aww!). "Hey Jenna," she said sweetly. "Hey Alex," I returned her gaze with a grin. "You want some milk?" I asked her as a nun came by with a carton of milk. Alex shook her head no, but Jay's dark blue eyes brightened at the sound of the word "milk." He had a weird addiction to it, it wasn't really a bad thing, but it was a little odd. The nun poured him a glass of milk and Jay drank happily. Then a guard came in and announced that the police were at the door. They had found us, and we needed to evacuate. Jeezums, I thought, are we all gonna die now?

.::Chapter Two::. All the kids in the room started to panic. The nuns calmed them down. Then they led us out and towards a back door. Unfortunately, that was blocked by policemen as well. "Are we gonna die?" Jay asked me? I took his hand and gave it a tight squeeze. "Not while I'm alive, come on!" The nuns took us outside. It was time to put our fight training to use. The policemen charged. I noticed, because their coats had a badge with the initials "C.P" on it, that they were Cancer Police. I frowned, we really were going to die. There was a huge bang. I whirled around, the church was on fire. They were burning it down to get everyone out. My heart ached, because I couldn't believe how cruel these people were. Then gun shots rang through the air. Kids were falling. I looked towards two policemen who were speaking. One of them said, "Is this the last of them?" The other one said, "Yes, after this, there will be no more mutants." I scowled. They were worse than I thought. "Run" I whispered to my friends. Jay couldn't run as fast as the rest of us, so I carried him while we ran into the woods. I was pretty sure that some policemen had seen us, so I wasn't gonna stop running anytime soon. A few minutes later, while we were still running, I heard the sounds of sirens. They were probably sending out a search for us. I saw a cave up ahead. I pointed the others in that direction and we went in. The roof was low, so Cap, Nikki, and I had to crouch a little. We went to the very back, and huddled together until the sound of sirens faded away. Everyone back at the orphanage was probably dead. The nuns probably were too. I closed my eyes, sending a prayer that they were happy whereever they were now. Jay was crying silently. He wasn't a loud cryer, he was tough that way. I hugged him tightly and then looked around at everyone else. "Alright guys," I said. "We can stay here for the night. Then we should go. We're not safe anywhere anymore." Everyone looked at me with frightened eyes. I wished I could say something to soothe their fears, but I didn't know what.

.::Chapter Three::. It was the next morning now. I yawned and sat up. Jay and Alex were both sleeping on top of my legs. I could barely feel them. I gently nudged Alex's head and Jay's arm off and slipped my legs away. Cap was sleeping near the cave entrance, he must have been taking watch. Nikki was sleeping a few feet away, with, um, drool dripping down her arm. I quietly got up to my feet and at that same time, the youngest ones woke up. Alex yawned and Jay rubbed his eye. I smiled at them both, "Morning guys." Then I nudged Nikki's leg with my foot, and her dark and tired eyes slowly opened. 'Up and at 'em, we're burning daylight," I told her. "We need to get a move on." Nikki nodded and stood up. Then Cap woke up and I greeted him, "Morning Cap." Cap nodded sleepily and we left the cave. "Where to now?" Cap asked. "Maybe we should see the orphanage, hopefully someone might be there," Nikki suggested. I nodded in agreement. Unfortunately, when we neared the orphanage, there was a police trooper with Four policemen sitting inside. "They knew we would come back," Nikki muttered. "Let's run," I said. My friends nodded and we ran the opposite way.

.::Chapter Four::. I didn't tell the others this, but one of the policemen had seen us. I knew he was probably about to pursue us right now. And of course, the sound of sirens blared behind us. Nikki gave me a glance, "They saw us?" I nodded solemnly and we kept running. We had mucho stamina thanks to the training the nuns had given us. We could run for hours, literally. I saw a city up ahead. I knew we might blend in up there. "This way!" I shouted, and I led my friends towards the city. We were still in the woods. I skidded to a halt at the edge of a hill. There were the backs of buildings down below. A metal wire fence barred an alleyway. We went down the hill and jumped the fence. The alleyway was empty. We walked casually out of the Alleyway. To cover us, I said, "Fido! Where are you boy?" I was pretending we were looking for our dog. Most people would find it strange to find five random kids walking out of an alleyway. And yes, I know, Fido is a very uncreative name. I glanced around. The sidewalks were bustling with people. I knew it was the perfect cover. "Stay close," I said to the others. We ventured down the sidewalk. I was looking around for any abandoned buildings we could stay in.
